Happy Saturday! Here are some of my favorites from this week:
1. Runway of Dreams Watch this video to learn about this amazing clothing like for people with disabilities. These people are the definition of game changers. 2. Gap Factory Who else can resist $13 sweaters?!?!?! 3. MindBodyGreen.com I am by no means a yogi or a hipster, but this daily dose of health news is almost enough to make me one. Check out March 24th's daily news. 4. MMMBOP turns 20!! My inner teenage girl heart swoons a little still; but on the outside I feel VERY old at the thought of this song turning 20 years old this week. And Taylor Hanson has a 13 YEAR OLD?!?!? Check out this enlightening article from Vulture. Happy Saturday everyone! The first day of spring brought some chilly air to Missouri this morning, but I am just grateful the snow stayed away from our part of the state! After a lazy morning, I became inspired by the realization we need another dog bed. We have two dogs, a Boston Terrier and a French Bulldog. They are not very big dogs, and when they do use a dog bed, they usually like to snuggle close one the same one. The problem lies in that we would like one in several rooms, that we don't have to more the one they use daily. I have been looking around for one, but just cannot bring myself to pay the money or one that I really like. Solution: Sew one! This afternoon I sifted through my fabric basket and came up with some great matches: -Two navy curtain panels I made one year for my classroom -One piece of durable cream fabric with a navy dot pattern on it The curtain panels were actually made out of a Wal-Mart sheet I bought; I have two huge windows in my office at school and I do not want to pay $50 for fabric, so sheets are more cost-effective. The panels were already cut to a good size, and I didn't want the bed to be any smaller than this, so I left them at that size. It was a weird length, 28" x 39", but I just went with it. I also took out the hem of the sheet to add a few inches as well. I then cut 4 stripes of my matching fabric: two 29" pieces and two 40" pieces. I put an extra inch on just in case. The strips were 6" wide. Please keep in mind I just kind of went with this. I followed no particular pattern and I have never made one of these before. Next, I took one of the navy panels and sewed the four strips to each side. Pinning was very important here! After each strip was sewed on, I then sewed the corners together using a straight seam to meet each of the strips. Last, I took the second panel and started sewing it to each of the four strips. On the fourth and last side, I left a six inch section open. After that, I turned the bed right side out and started stuffing it with stuffing! I actually did not have enough, so I still need to sew it up, but I will do that by hand. Below is the finished product with one of my favorite dog models! Happy Sunday! My spring break officially started today, and I could not be more excited for a ten day hiatus from school. I love my job, but when snow days are few, spring break is a welcome escape from school. As usual, I have a ten-mile long to-do list that I think I can accomplish over the next week (well, as long as Netflix doesn't get in the way), and I just wanted to share a few things that are making me excited: 1. Chevron Fabric I have lots of friends expecting in the next few months, and I cannot wait to start making some beautiful baby blankets for them!! 2. Colorful Cabinets This colorful cabinet has me dreaming of things I can paint around the house. Check out one of my favorite websites, Better Homes and Gardens for more color inspiration!! 3. Motivational Articles This has been a very different school year, and sometimes, that can weigh on an educator. Check out this great motivational article from Edutopia that can help you gain perspective even during the most difficult day. 4. Easter Eggs I am so excited to decorate Easter Eggs! Since spring break for me falls the week before Easter, I am excited to try some new ways to make the eggs look "egg"cellent :) If you want some egg decorating ideas, check out the The Incredible Eggs website with some sweet ideas!
TGIF! I hope Friday brings you some sweet moments as the week wraps up. Here are some things that I am obsessed with this week: 1. Loft's Henley Shirtdress This dress's color and shape are the perfect combination for spring and fall. I see myself getting so much use out of this! 2. Canada's Prime Minister and his take on Multiculturalism Click the button below to view his heartfelt video about what he thinks multiculturalism should look like in schools. His passion for the topic is inspiring. 3. Running in the rain. Nothing is as mind clearing as a long, run in the rain! 4. Do2Learn.com I found this website this week while attempting to think of an interention for one of my students. If you are needing social stories, worksheets, or feelings games for your students, this is the best website I have found in awhile. And the best part: Many of the resources are FREE!! 5. Spring Wreaths Spring has sprung here in Missouri, and I am all about it. How stylish is the wreath above from Laura Trevey? She has many different styles of spring wreaths that will inspire you to make your own.
I hope you all have a sweet Saturday and a wonderful weekend! Any person who spends an ample amount of time on Pinterest or Instagram has to have the same question as me: How do people get those perfect pictures or graphics with the stellar fonts?
Ok, so maybe I am the only person who has this question. But starting my journey with this blog, I decided to find an easy, cost-friendly way to start this process. I am sure there are lots of different apps, sites, or programs out there, but I thought I would share one that I have recently found that has tickled my fancy. Canva is a simple graphic design website that can help you create images to jump start any social media page. All of the graphics I have on the blog have been created with Canva. With my schedule, I have found it to be quick, efficient, and works best for what I want to use it for. I definitely do not claim to have any background in graphic design; I am just a girl who likes to play around in Publisher. Also, I do not a lot of extra income to buy fancy programs, so this was a great find for me. So let's break it down: Pros: -Free to sign up! Free to use many templates and fonts. -VERY easy to use an navigate. -Easy to download your designs to your computer or phone. I actually started with the app on my iPhone and then moved to my computer. -You start by choosing the different template for social media you are using. For example, if you are creating a Pinterest graphic, you can choose that right away. This way it is creating your design already fit for the certain media. No blurry images! -The app is also free! Cons: -I tend to be drawn to the templates that cost money. However, most of the templates are only $1.00! -I haven't really explored using the design I create with multiple different medias, so I am curious about how that will work. -Depending on the background you pick, sometimes the Canva logo is visible in your finished design. -It can take some time to go through all images, fonts, and the extras you can add onto your design. Overall, I feel this is a great site and app. I know there are probably a lot more out there, but this is what I have found to work for me right now. I do not claim to be an expert on this app or anything related to this app, I just wanted to share a tool with you that has made creating Love what you see?
